Chevrolet has announced plans to build a production version of the COPO Camaro concept.
Designed to compete in the NHRA Stock Eliminator and Super Stock classes, the production model will have a solid rear axle and be available in five colors: Flat Black, Summit White, Victory Red, Silver Ice Metallic and Ashen Gray Metallic.
The race-spec interior is stripped of all non-essential equipment but has bucket seats, a chrome moly roll cage, additional instrumentation and a competition shifter.
Under the hood, three engines will be available: a naturally-aspirated 7.0-liter V8 and two supercharged 5.3-liter V8s. All of them will be connected to a Powerglide automatic transmission which has been specifically designed for drag racing.
Only 69 units will be built for 2012 and they will be priced from $89,000. The first owners have already been hand-picked and deliveries are scheduled to begin early this summer.
