General Motors is honored to host U.S. President Obama and Republic of Korea President Lee at our Lake Orion Assembly Plant. The Chevrolet Sonic and Lake Orion facility show a reinvigorated GM using its global reach to design and build great cars that can compete in any market in the world.
We're proud of the designers, engineers and auto workers in the United States and Korea who brought the Sonic to market. This global collaboration, in combination with an innovative labor agreement with our UAW partners, has enabled GM to be the only automaker to build a sub-compact car competitively in the United States. More importantly, U.S. production of the Sonic and the upcoming Buick Verano supports more than 1,700 jobs at Lake Orion and in Pontiac, Mich.
The United States and Korea are vital parts of GM's global operations and GM has a significant design, engineering and manufacturing presence in both countries. The Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement will further grow this important trade and economic relationship. Greater use of GM's expertise and facilities in the United States and Korea should create new export and market opportunities for both countries.
